FEBRUARY 2011:
As a part of Association activity, the Department of Biomedical Engineering has arranged a guest lecture by Dr.V.K.Sundararaman, DMRD (Radiology) PhD (Biomed Engg), Scientist - Magnetic Resonance Imaging/Spectroscopy, Consultants-Biomedical Imaging Technology, Philips Innovation Research Center, Bangalore. The scientist was addressing about the latest research issues in the Biomedical Imaging fields, Problems related to various imaging modalities etc., The scientist also had a discussion with all the faculty members regarding their research work and the department is also planning for a Value Added Course on Biomedical Imaging in association with Philips Innovation Research Center, Bangalore.
Dr.V.Mahesh has conducted the Doctoral Committee meeting for two of his PhD Scholars at the Biomedical Department, SSNCE.
CPCSEA inspection committee member Dr.N.Radhakrishnan visited SSN animal house.
Dr.V.Mahesh has attended I-Cell meeting with the president ,SSNCE.
Dr N.Sriraam attended the meeting at Cyprus semiconductors regional office Chennai regarding the progress of SSN- CUA (Cyprus University Alliance) research projects. Mr. Patrick Kane ,Director CUA,USA and Mr. Karthikeyan CUA.
Bangalore division attended the session. It has been decided that a joint faculty program on PSoC and Engineering applications, will be conducted during May 2011. A special session for biomedical students will be conducted by Mr. Sanjeev Development Engineer,Biomedical Applications,CUA during mid May 2011.
Mr. G Mahendran,Territory Manager,CSM Software Pvt Ltd,Chennai delivered a special guest lecture on Finite Element Method and Biomechanics using LifeMod Software.
Mr Varadhan Srinivasan KariyaMaanikam, PhD research Shcolar,Finger" Lab (Motor Control Laboratory - Dept of Kinesiology),Penn State University, USA delivered a special lecture on "Kinesiology and Kinematics of Joints-Orthopedics” perspective.
The Doctoral Committee meeting for the candidate Ms Amuthadevi (Supervisor: Dr Sriraam) was held. Dr Sivaji Assoc Professor, Nuclear Physics Dept,University of Madras and Dr Kulandeivel Assoc Professor,ECE Dept NITTR,Chennai attended the session.
The Third Year Students Mr.S.Aswin and N.Gopalakrishnan has presented their project at the International Project Exhibition & Competition, held at Vel tech, Project titled "EOG based Assistive Technology Development",Authors: N. Gopalakrishnan, Aswin and Mahesh.
Dr Sriraam had a collaborative research discussion in the area of Orthopedic mechanics with Dr Sudan Christudoss,managing Director,COS-Orthopeadic speciality hospital tambaram Chennai.
Dr Sriraam attended the Board of Studies meeting at Anna University of Technology Chennai.

The Association of Biomedical Engineers (ABE), Department of Biomedical Engineering has organized a special guest lecture delivered by two French Scientists Mr. Yann Renard and Mr. Laurent Bonnet from INRIA(Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique),Paris,France on Brain Computer Interface (BCI). They did a live demonstration using openvibe software for BCI applications.
Two Candidates, Ms Amuthadevi and Mr Narayanamurthy have regsitered as full -time PhD candidates Under Dr N.Sriraam to persue their PhD research at Anna University of Technology, Chennai.
A national level workshop on "Molecular Biology & Immunology techniques" organized by the BME department on 19-1-2011 &20-1-2011. The program coordinators are Dr. Mallika Jainu & Dr.R.Subhashini and the training program was given by "Biozone Research technologies" Chennai.Dr.Florida Tilton, Director, presented a lecture session on "Advanced PCR technology" and more than 50 candidates participated in this workshop.

NOVEMBER 2010:
Dr .N.Sriraam ,Prof and Head, Biomedical Engineering, gave a key note address on " Recent Trends in Medical Imaging and Signal Processing" at the National Level Symposium,Medcom 2010 organized by Sahrdaya College of Engineering, Thrissur,Kerala.
Dr Sriraam, Prof and Head, Biomedical Engineering, was invited as Guest of Honor for the inaugural session of CISCON 2010-a national level conference on Instrumentation and Control organized by MIT Manipal Karnataka. He also chaired a session on Medical Instrumentation and applications as well as gave a key note address on:Recent Advances in BSP and Instrumentation: Global Perspective, Clinical Diagnosis and Other Applications.

Under the Cyprus University Alliance Programme , Cyprus Semicondcutor Inc,USA has donated USD300 worth Programmable System on Chip(PSoC) kits to set up preliminary PSoC lab at Biomedical Department,SSN.Five kits of PSoC3 have been received and other 5 nos of PSoC5 will be delivered by first week of October 2010.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering in association with CYPRESS SEMICONDUCTOR, Bangalore conducted a “Two Days Hands on training using PSoC for Biomedical Applications”. The Programme was inaugurated by Dr.J.Jayapandian, Head, Electronics and Instrumentation Division, IGCAR, Kalpakkam and Mr.A.K.Ponraj, Managing Director, Ideal Sensors, Chennai. Research scientists Smt.O.K.Sheela, Smt.Usharani Ravi and Balakumar from IGCAR interacted with the participants on the first day. The second day was taken over by Cypress Semiconductor senior application Engineers Mr. Praveen Sekar and Mr.Kannan Sadasivam who demonstrated the configuration and programming on PSoC.There were around 50 participants from allover Tamilnadu.

Dr Milind Purandare, Director Medical Division, HCL USA visited the BME dept and interacted with facultymembers. A colloborative intiative on product developement and consultancy is under process.
Dr Sriraam and R.Nithya Asst Prof/BME had a research discussion with Dr Lingam Gopal, Chairman,Sankara Nethralya,Chennai for colloborative intiative on the project: “STUDY AND DEVELOPMENT OF AUTOMATED DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR RETINAL DISORDERS USING ERG AND OCT”.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering has conducted its third national level technical symposium Srishti v3.0 on 30th aug 2010.Mr.Murali, General Manager, Philips Health Care Presided over the function as a chief guest and gave the chief guest address.Dr.M.Murugan, Psychiatrist gave a special key note address on autism. There were about 250 students participants from various other colleges from tamilnadu participating in various events like paper presentation, technical Dumb c etc.,
The Department of Biomedical Engineering conducted a Guest lecture on Digital signal processors and its applications for third year Biomedical Students.R.Suresh, Assistant Professor, Signal and Image Processing Division, VIT, Vellore was the chief guest.

Mr.PravinKumar,AP,BME submitted his synopsis on “Development of Image reconstruction algorithms for electrical Impedance tomography and epilepsy detection techniques for neurological applications”on 26.6.10 at JNTU Hydrebad
A consultancy work has been obtained from National Instruments; Bangalore to develop LABVIEW based practical manuals for developing image and biomedical image processing lab experiments. A three month duration has been given and Rs 40,000will be earned for this work.
