SSN Institutions launches "Road to Lead - Drive Safely" awareness campaign - In association with Chennai City Traffic Police
 
Chennai, 24th February, 2009: SSN Institutions, an initiative of Dr. Shiv Nadar, Founder, HCL Group, in association with Chennai City Traffic Police, today inaugurated a "Road to Lead- Drive Safely" awareness campaign. Mr. Sunil Kumar, IPS Additional Commissioner of Police Traffic along with Ms. Kala Vijaykumar, President, SSN Institutions, Dr. S. Salivahanan, Principal, SSN College of Engineering Dr.B.Srinivasan, Director, SSN SoMCA and Dr K. Kasthuri, Dean, SSN College of Engineering, flagged off the awareness drive at the Tidel Park Junction.

The "Road To Lead - Drive Safely" programme will have around 550 SSN students participating over the span of three-days from February 24th to 26th, 2009, to educate the public on road safety.

A team of 12 students will act as traffic wardens in the major junctions starting from the Madhya Kailash junction to Sholinganallur. The junctions include Tidel Park, toll gate and SRP tools, in the Rajiv Gandhi Salai (OMR) from 9.00 - 11.00 a.m. Across these key junctions SSN students will also hold signboards and distribute pamphlets, carrying road-safety messages on drunken driving, over-speeding and signal violations, to name a few.

Ms. Kala Vijaykumar, President, SSN Institutions said, "At SSN we believe that students are the backbone of our society. Our vision is not only to impart education to students but also to groom them into socially responsible human beings. They will definitely play a vital role in creating a positive difference in the society and the "Road to Lead" programme is a manifestation of our vision. I would like to thank Mr. Sunil Kumar and the Chennai City Traffic Police for their support and encouragement towards this awareness drive."

Speaking at the inauguration Mr. Sunil Kumar, IPS Additional Commissioner of Police Traffic said, "There are a number of lives being lost every year due to various road accidents which stands testimony to the lack of safety awareness among the public. I applaud the students of SSN Institutions for this initiative to educate the public on safe driving.
